Iran: The US- Iran strikes have intensified regional tensions, with explosions reported across southern coastal areas and neighbouring Gulf states facing security threats.
Air defence systems have been activated in Bandar Abbas, with damage still unclear and some infrastructure disruptions already addressed. The escalation follows earlier US strikes after attacks on 3 tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, marking one of the most intense exchanges since the June 17, 2026 agreement.
Rising hostilities between the US- Iran have led to explosions in Sirik, Bandar Abbas, Konarak, and Chabahar, alongside activated air defences, power outages, and a fire at an IRGC site in Bushehr, while Bahrain reported blasts in Manama, Kuwait intercepted missiles and drones, and Qatar issued alerts following retaliatory threats linked to tanker attacks in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, noted that, “We do not answer vulgarity with vulgarity, but with action: fearlessly and with great valour.”
US President Donald Trump stated that, “This is in retribution for yesterday’s bombing of ships by Iran. If it happens again, it will get much worse. I just don’t know if they’re worthy of making a deal – I don’t know that they’re going to honour the deal, that’s the problem.”
The agreement had outlined a 60-day ceasefire period, safe passage for vessels, and the possibility of easing sanctions. The negotiation window remains active. However, US leadership has indicated that further talks are not viewed as productive.
Earlier strikes were carried out on June 26, 2026, after an Iranian projectile hit a cargo vessel, followed by additional action on June 27, 2026. Both sides had moved to reduce tensions later in the month, but the latest strikes have reversed that trend.
The situation continues to evolve as risks increase across critical maritime routes and regional security concerns deepen. Further escalation could disrupt global energy supplies passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
