Canada: Female Foreign Minsters from across the globe will join their Canadian counterpart to hold a virtual meeting to highlight Iran’s ‘brutal’ crackdown on protests sparked by the murder of a young lady who was imprisoned by morality police for ‘improper’ usage of the hijab.
The state of women’s and human rights in Iran will be discussed at a virtual meeting on Thursday, the Foreign Minister of Canada, Ms. Melanie Joly, and 14 others have declared.
They will have the chance to coordinate their efforts and talk about “ways to increase their collective support for the Iranian people.”
The Canadian Minister shared that, “My counterparts and I will gather to send a clear message: the Iranian regime must end all forms of violence and persecution against the Iranian people, including their brutal aggressions against women in particular.”
According to a government source, among the 14 who will join Canada include Foreign Ministers from Germany, Chile, New Zealand, and Norway. France will participate in the meeting, but the sources reveal that Foreign Minister Ms. Catherine Colonna won’t be able to. Women of Iranian heritage will speak to officials, the Canadian Minister’s office reported.
Although it doesn’t seem like the present upheaval is going to bring down the Iranian regime, the stalemate in discussions over Iran’s nuclear program and Tehran’s (capital of Iran) decision to back Russia’s invasion of Ukraine have caused anxiety abroad.
Iran has accused that nations that have shown support for the protests are interfering in its domestic affairs.
Ms. Mahsa Amini, a native of Iran’s Kurdistan region, passed away on September 16 after being imprisoned by morality police in Tehran 3 days earlier due to her ‘inappropriate attire.’
