United States: Winter weather alerts have been issued for more than 10 million Americans as a cross-country storm continues to bring snow to some areas of the nation during the popular holiday travel weekend.

The National Weather Service reported that eleven states, ranging from Texas to New York, were under winter alerts due to the post-Thanksgiving storm that was currently affecting the central United States.

However, the National Weather Service stated that snowfall amounts are predicted to be lower than what has fallen thus far. This storm has already brought heavy snow to the Northern to Central Rockies, including more than 25″ of snow in Wyoming.

It is anticipated that accumulations will range from 2 to 4 inches. Through Sunday, which is anticipated to be the busiest day of the year for air travel, the heaviest snowfall is predicted to fall in Kansas, with up to 8″ possible. On Sunday, snow is predicted to begin to fall in the Chicago region. The highest amounts are anticipated to fall between 4 and 10 am, and Chicago may receive 1 to 2 inches of snowfall.

Winds are predicted to increase as the storm moves out of the US midsection, bringing temperatures below zero in some places, including parts of Kansas.

It is predicted that later on Sunday, the storm will merge with a coastal low and bring heavy rain for brief periods of time to cities like Hartford, Connecticut, New York City, and Boston. In the Northeast, less than an inch of rain is predicted, but much of New England may receive up to two inches.
