Los Angeles: Emma Stone has won the Best Actress award at the 2024 Oscars for her role as Bella Baxter in the film ‘Poor Things’.
Poor Things is a 2023 film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. The film was written by Tony McNamara in 1992, based on Alasdair Gray’s novel. The story revolves around a lady who is resurrected by a scientist via a brain transplant and re-enters the world as a grown woman with the brain of a toddler.
The movie premiered at the 80th Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Golden Lion, the highest prize of the event. Emma Stone was appreciated for her performance in the movie. The film was a big winner at the Oscars Awards ceremony. According to critics, the film showcased multiple genres with elements of dark comedy and steampunk.
Poor Things won awards for Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling. When last year’s Best Actress winner Michelle Yeoh announced Stone as the winner, the actress was visibly surprised. Stone expressed gratitude to her family and the entire film team onstage.
Emma Stone said that, “The women on this stage, you are all incredible, and the women in this category—Sandra, Annette, Carey, Lily—I share this with you. I’m in awe of you. It has been such an honour to do this all together and I hope we continue to do more together.”
“The other night I was panicking as you can that maybe something like this could happen and Yorgos told me please take yourself out of it—and he was right because it’s not about me. It’s the team that came together to make something better than the sum of its parts. That’s the best part about making movies is all of us together,” the actress added.
