US: The winter has been brutal in America and forecasts expect a similar situation to continue through the week in certain areas. The forecasters have predicted heavy rains in the east and several feet of snow for parts of the Pacific Northwest.
High winds and a few tornadoes passed through parts of the South. Authorities attribute at least three deaths to weather in Alabama, North Carolina and Georgia. Tornadoes also caused heavy damage in parts of the Florida panhandle.
Heavy rains and high winds hit the majority of the East Coast.
The National Weather Service (NWS) informed a forecast of three or more inches of rain forecast for a wide swath of the northeast. Some areas were hit with heavy snow last weekend, increasing the risk of significant flooding.
Storms had knocked 418,000 homes and businesses in 12 states out of power.
Snow will continue in the Midwest and Great Lakes region, a large portion of the areas which saw blizzard conditions. The snow is being produced in the northern and western edges of the storm surrounding the East Coast. The NWS reported that they expect Up to 8 inches of snow and high winds.
The NWS stated that, “This snow will cling to trees and power lines, which when combined with gusty winds potentially exceeding 55 mph, could result in power outages.”
Forecasters said that conditions for the Midwest and East Coast will gradually improve as the storm system moves out.
The NWS stated that a separate storm system is producing blizzard conditions in the North Pacific.. The system is creating several feet of snow at higher elevations in the Cascade Mountains in Washington and Oregon.
That storm system will strengthen as it roars over the Rockies and onto the central plains.
