San Francisco: YouTube has returned to normal functioning after a brief outage disrupted access to videos and recommendations for users across several countries. The YouTube platform has stated that a problem within the recommendation system had prevented videos from appearing properly across different services.

The disruption affected YouTube.com, the mobile application, YouTube Music, Kids and TV platforms. According to an update from the company, the issue linked to recommendations has been fixed and all services have resumed normal operations across affected regions.

During the peak of the disruption, outage tracking service Downdetector recorded more than 320,000 user reports of issues in the United States alone. The data from Downdetector has been based on user-submitted reports, and the total number of affected users globally may have varied.

Reports of YouTube outages also emerged from several countries, including India, Britain, Australia and Mexico. The service disruption appeared to be widespread but short-lived, with access restored once the recommendation system problem had been resolved.

The YouTube disruption highlighted the platform’s reliance on recommendation systems that determine how content appears to users. Temporary failures within such systems can affect visibility of videos even when other parts of the service remain accessible.

Following the restoration, YouTube has confirmed that all platforms are functioning normally again. The company has not provided further details on the technical cause but has indicated that services across web and mobile have stabilised after the brief interruption.

At the height of the disruption, outage tracking service Downdetector recorded more than 320,000 user reports in the United States alone. Reports of YouTube issues also emerged from India, Britain, Australia and Mexico, indicating a widespread but short-lived interruption.

Downdetector figures have been based on user-submitted reports, meaning the total number of affected users may have varied globally. After the recommendation system problem was fixed, YouTube has confirmed that all services have resumed normal operation across web and mobile platforms.
