Japan: An elderly Japanese women in her 90s has been rescued alive amidst the rubbles of a two-storied building which was devastated by the 7.5 magnitude earthquake on New Year’s day.

According to the reports, the woman was rescued alive after 124 hours since the earthquake. The rescuers immediately took the lady to the hospital. The doctor informed them that the lady was well enough to have conversations but had injuries in the leg.

Mr. Kume Takanori, a member of the emergency rescue team, told sources that the woman’s knees got stuck under furniture within a very narrow space between the first and second floor. This made the rescue take long hours.

The incident is reported from Suzu City in Ishikawa prefecture. The earthquake that struck central Japan triggered tsunami alerts as far away as eastern Russia. Many people lost life and many others were forced to evacuate from their surroundings.

The death toll from the disaster is rising as the time got past the Golden Hour. Experts call 72 hours post-disaster as the Golden Hour. Officials inform that the rescue operations are still ongoing in the Ishikawa area.

Sources reported that many roads are still in block. An element that makes it difficult for the rescue personnel and other emergency services to reach the affected people.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida shared a statement in x that traffic regulations would be implemented around the earthquake zone. Traffic will not be allowed to enter the affected areas to allow free movement for disaster recovery-related vehicles.

Japan is one of the most seismically active countries in the world. The country has witnessed frequent earthquakes as a result of those seismic activities.
