United States: The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has called on China to be more transparent in sharing information regarding the origin of the COVID-19 virus. Speaking at a recent media briefing, Dr. Tedros emphasized that all possible scenarios would be considered until China provides the necessary data to investigate the matter thoroughly.
Dr. Tedros, stated that the organization had requested China’s collaboration to aid in investigating the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Without full access to the information that China has, you cannot say this or that,” remarked Dr. Tedros Adhanom, in response to a question about the origin of the virus.
“All hypotheses are on the table. That’s WHO’s position and that’s why we have been asking China to be cooperative on this,” the Director-General added. It has been more than three years since the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic on March 11, 2020, yet there is still no concrete evidence regarding the virus’s origin. The pandemic caused widespread devastation, leading to the closure of borders, imposing lockdowns, and severely damaging economies worldwide.
The disease has taken the lives of millions of people, emphasizing the need to identify the source of the virus. However, despite extensive investigations, the WHO and its partners have been unable to determine the exact cause of the pandemic, with several theories still in circulation, ranging from the animal-to-human transmission to a laboratory leak. The absence of conclusive evidence highlights the importance of global cooperation and transparency in probing the origins of the pandemic.
Chinese scientists briefly uploaded data from the early days of the COVID-19 outbreak to an international database last month. The data uploaded by the Chinese scientists last month contained genetic sequences from over 1,000 environmental and animal samples collected in January 2020 at the Huanan seafood market in Wuhan.
