Ho Chi Minh City: Vietnam has celebrated 50 years since the end of the Vietnam war with a historic parade in Ho Chi Minh City on April 30, 2025. The 50th anniversary of Vietnam drew global attention, highlighting the country’s progress, reunification, and peaceful development since 1975.
Thousands gathered in Ho Chi Minh City, formerly Saigon, to mark the Vietnam war’s end with parades, air shows, and festivities. The military parade featured troops, helicopters, and fighter jets, symbolising peace, strength, and Vietnam’s post-war transformation and diplomatic growth. Soldiers from China, Laos, and Cambodia joined the parade, underlining Vietnam’s international ties and regional unity in a modern era.
To Lam hails Vietnam war victory as ‘Triumph of Faith’
To Lam, Vietnam’s Communist Party Chief, said that, “It was a victory of faith.” Praising justice over tyranny and quoting Ho Chi Minh, To Lam added that, “Vietnam is one, the Vietnamese people are one. Rivers may dry up, mountains may erode, but that truth will never change.”

Pham Dut Diem, from Ho Chi Minh City’s Foreign Affairs Department, highlighted that Vietnam now symbolizes peace, creativity, and aspirations for progress. The Vietnam War’s legacy was revisited as the country showcased resilience, pride, and the power of reconciliation and international partnership.
Vietnam draws global media attention
Vietnam welcomed 169 foreign journalists from 17 countries, alongside 630 domestic reporters, reflecting growing global interest in Vietnam’s history and future. The event reaffirmed Vietnam’s diplomatic relevance while honouring those affected by decades of conflict and the journey toward modern nationhood.
On April 30, 1975, the fall of Saigon marked the end of the Vietnam War and initiated the reunification of North and South Vietnam. Though officially known as Reunification Day, the date still evokes complex feelings, echoing the emotional impact of the Vietnam War’s long shadow.
However, the 50th anniversary reinforced a unified national identity, peaceful ambitions, and Vietnam’s rise as a stable and growing regional power.
