New Jersey: United Airlines has halted all mainline departures at major airports across the United States due to a technology issue, as described by the company.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the nationwide ground stop for United’s mainline flights, with disruptions affecting major hubs including Chicago O’Hare, Denver, Houston, San Francisco, and Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey.
United Airlines stated that, “We expect additional flight delays this evening as we work through this issue. Safety is our top priority, and we’ll work with our customers to get them to their destinations.”

The airline clarified that flights already in the air are continuing to their destinations. While the technology glitch does not directly impact regional flights, the airline warned they may still experience delays due to congestion from the halted mainline traffic.
As of 21:00 EDT (2:00 BST), over 700 United flights had been delayed, according to the flight tracking website FlightAware.
United Airlines further commented that, “The cause and extent of the technical issue remain unclear at this time.” Travellers are advised to check their flight status and prepare for potential delays as United Airlines works to resolve the issue.
