London, UK: The United Kingdom (UK) has announced the lifting of security restrictions on liquids and laptops in Airport hand luggage in 2024 due to the deployment of hi-tech 3D scanners.
The government is considering implementing the advanced technology, which is similar to CT scanners used in hospitals, in two years, although a final decision has not been made.
The biggest cause of delays at airport security is passengers who forget to take goods out of their baggage or who bring huge bottles of liquids and creams.
The new technology allows staff to zoom in on a bag’s contents and rotate the photos for inspection. It has already been tested at London’s Heathrow airport since 2017.
Limitations on the size of liquids were put into place in 2006 after terror attack using liquid explosives was thwarted at Heathrow Airport.
However, until the changes modifications take effect, passengers flying out of the UK must adhere to the current liquid restrictions.
