London, UK: The United Kingdom will host a global summit on artificial intelligence (AI) this autumn, aiming to assess the significant risks associated with the technology.

As concerns mount over the potential existential threat posed by AI, regulators worldwide are working to establish new rules to mitigate these risks. UK Prime Minister Mr. Rishi Sunak expressed his desire for the UK to take the lead in ensuring that the benefits of AI are utilized for the betterment of humanity. Mr. Sunak emphasized the need for the safe and secure development and utilization of AI, given its immense potential to transform lives positively.

While the attendees of the upcoming summit have not been disclosed yet, the UK government stated that it would bring together influential countries, leading tech companies, and researchers to establish safety measures for evaluating and monitoring the most significant AI risks. Speaking in Washington DC, where he is in discussions on the matter with President Mr. Biden, Sunak asserted that the UK is the natural choice to lead conversations around AI.

Downing Street cited Mr. Sunak’s recent meetings with CEOs of prominent AI firms as evidence of the UK’s suitability to spearhead this dialogue. Additionally, they highlighted the 50,000 individuals employed in the AI sector, which reportedly contributes $4.95 billion (£3.7 billion) to the UK economy. The global AI summit aims to foster collaboration and create a framework that ensures the responsible development and deployment of AI technology, thereby safeguarding against potential risks.
