London, UK: Mr. David Cameron, British Foreign Secretary, has urged US Congress to approve a military aid package for Ukraine during his visit to Washington.
Mr. Cameron intervened the day after Republicans in the Senate blocked foreign aid from moving forward in protest over the lack of changes to border and immigration policy.
Speaking to an Aspen Security Forum in Washington, Mr. Cameron stated that, “I’m not worried about the strength and unity and consensus and bravery of the Ukrainian people. I’m worried that we’re not going to do what we need to do.”
“We’ve got to make sure we give them the weapons, the economic support, the moral support, the diplomatic support, but crucially, that military support that can make a difference,” the Foreign Secretary added.
This was the former British Prime Minister, Mr. Cameron’s, first official visit to Washington following his appointment as foreign secretary.
After a meeting with US Secretary of State, Mr. Antony Blinken, later in the day, Mr. Cameron emphasized the importance of supporting “Ukraine in every way we can to resist Russian President, Mr. Vladimir Putin’s, illegal invasion.”
US President, Mr. Joe Biden, who had urged lawmakers to approve the funds, warned that Mr. Putin would not stop with victory in Ukraine and could even attack a NATO nation.
“We should pass this money to the Ukrainians. We should back them and make sure that it’s Mr. Putin that loses because if that money doesn’t get voted through, there are only two people that will be smiling,” Mr. Cameron remarked.
