United Kingdom: The UK Treasury has announced that the Budget will include an £800 million ($1.06 billion) package of technology reforms targeted at saving time for the NHS and police.
Police will employ drones to assess incidents like traffic crashes as part of Treasury reforms, while artificial intelligence will be used to reduce MRI scan times by a third.
According to the department, by 2029, the improvements could boost public sector productivity by £1.8 billion ($2.39 billion).
“There is too much waste in the system and we want public servants to get back to doing what matters most: teaching our children, keeping us safe and treating us when we’re sick. That’s why our plan is about reaping the rewards of productivity, from faster access to MRIs for patients to hundreds of thousands of police hours freed up to attend burglaries or incidents of domestic abuse,” the UK Chancellor Jeremy Hunt added.
Pressure is mounting on Mr. Hunt to offer tax cuts in what may be the final economic concession from the Conservatives prior to the next general election.
It is anticipated that before the end of this decade, the tax burden would have reached all-time highs due to the nation’s need to repay large amounts of debt incurred for COVID-19 support as well as the jump in oil prices following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Mr. Hunt is reportedly getting ready to generate £300 million by adjusting the favorable tax system for holiday lets in the budget. Additionally, another £500 million could potentially be raised by implementing a levy on vapes.
