Abu Dhabi: UAE air traffic has resumed normal operations after aviation authorities lifted a temporary shutdown imposed earlier amid escalating regional tensions in the Gulf.
The UAE air traffic update was confirmed by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), which stated that flight operations across the country’s airspace have returned to normal following safety assessments. Authorities had previously introduced precautionary restrictions after evaluating aviation risks related to ongoing developments in the region.
According to the aviation authority, the situation continues to be closely monitored while airlines gradually restore regular schedules. The confirmation has allowed carriers operating through the country’s major airports to resume flights and stabilise operations.
Earlier, authorities had announced a temporary and partial closure of UAE airspace as an exceptional precautionary measure to ensure the safety of passengers, aircraft and flight crews. The decision was taken amid security concerns in the region and potential risks to aviation routes across the Gulf.
The restrictions briefly affected operations at Dubai International Airport, one of the world’s busiest international aviation hubs. Airport authorities confirmed that flights were temporarily disrupted after an incident near the airport triggered safety concerns.

A fire was reported in an area close to the airport, which resulted in several flights being delayed, diverted or temporarily halted. Operations gradually resumed after safety checks were completed and authorities confirmed that conditions were secure.
One of the flights affected during the disruption was an Emirates service travelling from Kochi in India to Dubai. Flight EK533 departed from Cochin International Airport at approximately 4:30 am on March 16 with 325 passengers onboard. The aircraft was instructed to return to Kochi around four hours after departure due to the temporary shutdown of Dubai airport operations.
Airlines have now started restoring schedules as normal operations return across the country’s airports. Aviation authorities have indicated that services will continue to stabilise as airlines reposition aircraft and adjust flight schedules following the disruption.
The incident has highlighted how security developments in the Gulf region can quickly affect aviation operations. The UAE’s airports function as major global transit hubs linking Asia, Europe and Africa, handling millions of passengers travelling between continents.
Authorities have emphasised that the temporary airspace restriction was introduced purely as a precautionary step to ensure aviation safety. Officials have stated that monitoring of regional developments continues to protect air traffic operations and passenger safety.
