California, US: Mr. Elon Musk, Twitter’s new CEO, announced that Mr. Donald Trump’s account had been restored after a poll in which users narrowly supported the move.
“The people have spoken,” tweeted Mr. Musk, stating that 51.8 percent of more than 15 million Twitter users voted for the ban to be lifted.
But the former US President may not return to the platform, since Mr. Trump has claimed that, “I don’t see any reason for it.”
In 2021, Mr. Trump’s account was suspended due to the potential of inciting violence.
Just a few days after former US President’s supporters stormed the US Capitol in Washington, DC, on January 6th, Twitter’s previous management took action.
As the US Congress attempted to recognize Mr. Joe Biden’s victory in the Presidential election, hundreds of rioters stormed the building. Four civilians and a police officer died during the protest.
After being suspended, Mr. Trump, who had tens of millions of followers on Twitter, later founded Truth Social, his own social media platform.
The Republican declared earlier this week that he would run for President of the United States once more in 2024.
The world’s wealthiest man, Mr. Musk became Twitter’s CEO last month after purchasing the company for $44 billion (£37 billion).
In response to worries that he might relax Twitter’s rules against hate speech and disinformation, the serial entrepreneur quickly started a series of radical adjustments within the massive social media company.
In response to queries on whether he would restore Mr. Trump’s account a little over a week before the US midterm elections on November 8th, Mr. Musk tweeted that, “If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me if Trump is coming back on this platform, Twitter would be minting money!”
The microblogging site, Twitter recently informed its staff that the company’s office buildings will be temporarily closed immediately. The employees had received a message that the offices will reopen on November 21st. The reason for the move is unknown.
The statement came as there were rumors that several employees are leaving after the new owner, Mr. Elon Musk, asked them to commit to “long hours at high intensity” or quit.
