United States: Former US President Mr. Donald Trump‘s campaign has stated that it raised more than $7 million after he was booked at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, Georgia, over charges of overturning the 2021 election.
“Since appearing to have his mugshot taken, Mr. Trump has raked in millions in donations,” spokesperson Mr. Steven Cheung posted on X.
On Friday alone, Mr. Trump brought in $4.18 million, making it the highest-grossing day of his campaign so far,” Mr. Cheung added.
The former President described his appearance as a “terrible experience” and added that posing for the historic mugshot was “not a comfortable feeling. However, the Trump campaign immediately seized on its fundraising power after the mugshot.
The campaign released a new line of merchandise featuring the image that began with T-shirts and now includes shot glasses, mugs, bumper stickers, a signed poster, and even bobblehead dolls. The shot of Mr. Trump showed him with a red tie, glistening hair, and an icy scowl.
Mr. Trump, who was elected president in 2016 but was defeated by Democrat Mr. Joe Biden in 2020, is again seeking the Republican Party’s nomination for president.
Over the last three weeks, the Republican frontrunner has raised nearly $20 million, a period that coincides with his indictment in federal and state cases linked to allegations that “the 2020 election was stolen from him.”
A recent report noted that while Mr. Trump raised more than $53 million during the first half of 2023, his political committees have paid out at least $59.2 million to about 100 lawyers and law firms since January 2021.
