United States: Donald Trump’s campaign filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), accusing Vice President Kamala Harris of violating federal campaign finance laws by replacing Joe Biden’s name with her own to take control of his campaign funds.

The lawsuit, which was submitted by David Warrington, the general counsel for the Trump campaign, claimed that the Biden campaign was unable to roll over $91 million and change its committee from “Biden for President” to “Harris for President” after Biden withdrew from the race on Sunday.

The Trump team has been seeking for any means to stifle the momentum Harris has been able to generate with voters and contributors since she swiftly emerged as the presumed Democratic nominee. It is uncertain whether the complaint will be taken seriously by the FEC.

Those who know the situation said that part of the approach has been to file fresh lawsuits to keep Harris from receiving any of Biden’s funds, even though the Tuesday complaint did not involve a lawsuit.

The complaint stated that it would ask the FEC to consider fining the transfer or referring it to the US Justice Department for criminal activity if it were determined that the transfer was illegal.

The Harris campaign also announced in a statement that they had received $100 million in donations in the 36 hours following Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 contest, and they added that “baseless legal claims – like the ones they’ve made for years to try to suppress votes and steal elections – will only distract them.”
