Austin, Texas: Tesla has issued its largest-ever recall, affecting more than 46,000 Cybertrucks in the US due to concerns over a trim panel that may detach while driving, creating a potential road hazard.
The recall, which includes nearly all Cybertrucks produced since November 2023, was reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
According to NHTSA filings, the issue involves the cant rail, a stainless-steel exterior trim panel, which can delaminate and detach from the vehicle.
Tesla began investigating the problem in January and has received about 150 complaints from drivers. While no accidents have been reported, the defect could increase the risk of crashes. Tesla estimates that the issue affects approximately 1% of the recalled vehicles.

The recall comes as Tesla faces declining sales and growing backlash against the company and its CEO, Elon Musk.
The company has not responded to requests for comment. Tesla does not break down Cybertruck sales figures, but Cox Automotive estimates that roughly 39,000 were sold in the US last year.
Previous Cybertruck recalls have addressed problems such as windshield wiper failures, trapped accelerator pedals, and potential loss of drive power. Tesla will repair the cant rail issue free of charge under warranty.
In a separate development, US Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that three individuals would face charges for setting fire to Tesla vehicles and charging stations, labelling the incidents as “domestic terrorism.”
