New York: Taylor Swift has revealed her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, announcing it at exactly 12:12 am eastern time on 12 August after a countdown, cryptic online teasers, and hints of an upcoming appearance on her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast.
The buildup included her website turning glittering orange, a 12-image Instagram carousel from the Eras Tour by her marketing team, Taylor Nation captioned, “Thinking about when she said ‘See you next era … ’,” and fans spotting a silhouette of Swift linked to her 2022 Variety interview about All Too Well: The Short Film.
When the countdown ended, Swift’s site briefly crashed before revealing the album title, with a note that it will ship before 13 October, with the caveat that says, “THIS IS NOT THE RELEASE DATE, OFFICIAL RELEASE DATE TO BE ANNOUNCED.”

A podcast clip showed Swift opening a briefcase to reveal a blurred vinyl, and declaring that, “This is my brand new album, The Life of a Showgirl.”
The 35-year-old megastar, who has sold an estimated 200 million records worldwide and holds the US record for most No.1 albums by a female artist, recently completed the first billion-dollar tour in history, earning over $2 billion in 21 months.
Her previous album, The Tortured Poets Department (2024), broke Spotify records with 300 million streams in a day and 1 billion in five days, while dominating the Billboard Hot 100’s top 14 spots.

In May, Swift regained ownership of her first six albums’ master recordings from Shamrock Capital, concluding a two-decade battle that began when she signed with Big Machine in 2005.
The masters were sold to Scooter Braun in 2019 and later resold to Shamrock for $300 million. Swift responded by rerecording her albums as ‘(Taylor’s Version)’ with unreleased ‘From the Vault’ tracks, a project that fans expect to include her debut and Reputation, even though she now owns the originals.
Taylor Swift’s legacy as one of the most influential and profitable artists in music history continues, with The Life of a Showgirl set to mark another milestone in her record-breaking career.
