New York: Taylor Swift has become the youngest female artist to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, marking another major milestone in the career of the 36-year-old global pop superstar.

The honour follows a series of landmark achievements over the past few years, including the release of her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, which broke her own sales records when it was released in October.

Taylor Swift is among nine songwriters named in the Songwriters Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026. The list also includes Canadian-American singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette and Walter Afanasieff, the acclaimed songwriter and producer best known for his work with Mariah Carey.

Other inductees include Christopher ‘Tricky’ Stewart, who co-wrote Beyoncé hits such as Single Ladies and Break My Soul, rock legends Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons of Kiss, Footloose singer-songwriter Kenny Loggins, and songwriting duo Terry Britten and Graham Lyle, who penned Tina Turner’s classic What’s Love Got to Do With It.

The singer will be officially welcomed into the prestigious institution during a private induction ceremony scheduled to take place in New York later this year.

    Songwriters Hall of Fame

Founded in 1969, the Songwriters Hall of Fame honours songwriters whose work represents some of the most beloved and influential songs in the global popular music catalogue. The organisation selects only a small group of artists each year, with fewer than 500 individuals inducted over the past 50 years.

Announcing this year’s inductees, Chairman and Chic frontman Nile Rodgers said that the 2026 class “not only showcases iconic songs but also celebrates unity across various genres.”

The songwriters being honoured have had a profound impact on the lives of billions of listeners worldwide, describing it as a privilege to recognise their creative contributions. Emphasising the foundation’s philosophy, Rodgers noted that “everything originates from the song and its creator.”

Taylor Swift remains one of the best-selling music artists of all time, having achieved global stardom through 12 studio albums and four re-recorded releases known as Taylor’s Versions. Swift previously made Grammy history by becoming the first performer to win the Album of the Year award four times.

Last year, it was announced that Swift had successfully regained ownership of the rights to her first six albums, bringing an end to a long-running and highly publicised dispute over the ownership of her music catalogue.

Taylor Swift’s latest album also delivered the UK’s biggest opening week of 2025, selling 304,000 copies in just three days, further underlining her enduring commercial success and influence within the global music industry.

The induction further cements Taylor Swift’s legacy as one of the most influential songwriters and recording artists of her generation.
