New York: Pop star Taylor Swift has officially endorsed Kamala Harris for the 2024 U.S. presidential election, voicing her support for the Democratic candidate in a post following Harris’ debate against former President Donald Trump.

Swift described Harris as a ‘steady-handed, gifted leader’ and a ‘warrior’ who fights for progressive causes, such as LGBTQ+ rights and reproductive freedom. She also praised Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, for his long-standing advocacy on women’s rights and healthcare issues.

Swift’s endorsement emphasized the importance of voting and urged her followers to do their own research on the candidates. She addressed the spread of misinformation, specifically referencing an AI-generated image falsely depicting her supporting Trump, and highlighted the necessity of transparency in the face of such disinformation.

In an Instagram post the pop star said that she had done her ‘research’. “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election, “I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes, I believe need a warrior to champion them. ”

Swift also wrote that, “I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos”.

Taylor Swift joins a growing list of celebrities endorsing Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential election. Other high-profile supporters include singers John Legend and Olivia Rodrigo, actor George Clooney, and filmmaker Spike Lee. On the opposing side, Donald Trump has received endorsements from former wrestler Hulk Hogan, television personality Amber Rose, and billionaire Elon Musk.

This is not the first time Swift has spoken out politically. In the 2020 election, she endorsed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, signalling a shift from her previous reluctance to publicly discuss her political views. Swift’s backing of Harris in 2024 underscores her commitment to using her platform for political activism. Her endorsement has already drawn significant attention especially among younger voters, known as ‘Swifties’.
