London, UK: The UK Prime Minister, Mr. Rishi Sunak’s first king’s speech reportedly will encompass criminal justice measures and a smoking ban.

King Charles will deliver the speech, the first in more than 70 years, at the State Opening of Parliament ceremony, which marks the start of the parliamentary year.

As crime and punishment will be the key focus of the speech, the UK PM will confirm the bill introducing specific provisions that affect murderers who have committed particularly horrible crimes involving sadistic or sexual conduct.

In his speech, Mr. Sunak will emphasise the clear differences he’s establishing with UK’s opposition leader Mr. Keir Starmer’s centre-left Labour Party regarding environmental and energy issues, as per the statement.

The proposal will introduce a yearly law allowing new licences for North Sea oil and gas projects. Mr. Sunak believes this will reduce the UK’s dependence on foreign energy and generate job opportunities.

In September 2023, Mr. Sunak had already revealed a reversal of green energy policies, positioning himself as a supporter of motorists to improve his party’s prospects.

In contrast, the Labour Party has stated that it will not grant additional licences for oil and gas exploration. Instead, they plan to increase investments in green energy.

“I want everyone across the country to have the pride and peace of mind that comes with knowing your community, where you are raising your family and taking your children to school, is safe. That is my vision of what a better Britain looks like,” Mr. Sunak said ahead of his first King’s Speech.
