South Africa: Ockie Strydom of South Africa won the Singapore Classic by one stroke over Sami Valimaki of Finland after shooting a nine-under 63.
After winning the Alfred Dunhill title in South Africa, Strydom shot a final-round 63 at Laguna National Golf Resort Club to finish on 19 under par and earn his second victory on the European Tour. Valimaki scored a six-under 66 to finish one stroke behind Strydom, despite starting the final round two shots behind overnight leaders Alejandro del Rey and Wang Jeung-hun.
Strydom drew Valimaki in by adding four back-nine birdies to his five on the way out. Valimaki appeared most likely to benefit from the situation and was three shots ahead of the pack after sinking a 30-footer for birdie at the 10th.

The best shot of the group came on the par-five 18th when the player put himself in some difficulty through the green with his second approach, but he maintained his composure and chipped his shot in for a birdie, raising the goal to 19 under. However, Valimaki was left facing the final hole requiring an eagle to win or a birdie to force a playoff, but he missed his second shot and the best he could muster was a par.
At 15 under, Wang and Del Rey tied for third with Marcel Schneider of Germany. Strydom’s first victory, at the Alfred Dunhill Championship, gave him the edge needed to cross this finish line.
