Jerusalem (Capital of Israel): The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) recovered the bodies of six hostages from the Gaza Strip, leading to an outpouring of anger and massive protests in Israel. The hostages, identified as Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Ori Danino, Eden Yerushalmi, Almog Sarusi, Alexander Lobanov, and Carmel Gat, were reportedly killed by Hamas terrorists 48 to 72 hours before their bodies were found.

According to the Health Ministry, the autopsies conducted by the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute revealed that the hostages were shot multiple times at close range. Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, an IDF Spokesman, stated, “They were brutally murdered by Hamas terrorists a short while before we reached them. They were abducted alive on the morning of October 7 by the Hamas terror group.”

However, senior Hamas leader Khalil Al-Hayya accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of being responsible for the hostages’ deaths. In an interview with Al Jazeera, Al-Hayya claimed, “Netanyahu and his extremist government are the reason they lost their lives,” though he provided no evidence for these claims.

Protests erupted in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and other cities as grieving families laid their loved ones to rest. The demonstrators expressed their outrage at the government’s failure to secure the release of the hostages. The leader of the Histadrut labor union, Arnon Bar-David, declared a national strike, pressuring the government to reach a ceasefire agreement.

The six hostages, including five taken from a music festival and one from a nearby kibbutz, were among the 251 captives taken by Hamas on October 7. It is believed that 97 hostages remain in Gaza, while the IDF has confirmed the deaths of 33 captives so far.

    About the Deceased Hostages

    • Ori Danino: A 25-year-old soldier who was taken captive after returning to the festival to rescue friends. Danino was engaged and planning to study electrical engineering and was the eldest of five siblings.
    • Eden Yerushalmi: A 24-year-old bartender at the Nova festival. She was captured after unsuccessfully trying to hide from the attackers.
    • Alexander Lobanov: A 32-year-old Israeli-Russian who served as the head bartender at the festival. He was captured while hiding in an olive grove and never saw his second child, who was born after his abduction.

    • Almog Sarusi: A music producer from Raanana, Israel. He was captured at the festival after trying to save his fiancée, who was fatally injured during the Hamas attack.
    • Hersh Goldberg-Polin: An American-Israeli who attended the Nova music festival in southern Israel. Despite losing part of his arm during the attack, he was captured and later seen in a Hamas hostage video. His family, who had relocated to Israel from the US, described him as a “happy-go-lucky” individual with aspirations to become a chef.
    • Carmel Gat: A 39-year-old occupational therapist abducted from her family home in Beeri kibbutz. Gat had just returned from India and was known for teaching yoga to freed hostages.

Meanwhile, Hamas still holds 101 hostages in Gaza, including women, children, and the elderly. We will not stop until every hostage is brought home,” said IDF International Spokesperson, LTC Nadav Shoshani, regarding the recovery of the bodies of six hostages.
