Ukraine: According to Ukrainian President Mr. Volodymyr Zelensky, Russia intends to “exhaust” Ukraine into submission through a protracted campaign of drone attacks and aerial bombardments.

Mr. Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine had received information that Russia would step up its campaign of drone assaults on the country in his nightly address to the nation on 2nd January 2023.

“We have information that Russia is planning a long-term attack using Shahed drones, It is probably banking on exhaustion. Exhausting our people, our anti-aircraft defences, our energy,” Mr. Zelenskyy remarked.

killing at least five people and injuring others, key infrastructure in Kyiv and the surrounding areas was targeted early on 2nd January Following Russian missile and drone assaults that rocked Kyiv and other locations on 2023 New Year’s Eve and early on New Year’s Day.

In just the first two days of 2023, the Ukrainian President claimed that Ukrainian forces had shot dozens of drones, and he predicted that the number would soon rise. The Russian military has increasingly turned to the use of so-called kamikaze drones, which are packed with explosives and, at the end of their flight path, descend vertically at high speed on their target, causing extensive damage and casualties, as per the report.

Ukraine’s military officials commented on Monday that it successfully had shot down all 39 drones Russia had launched in a third straight night of air raids against civilian targets in Kyiv and other cities. The officials said their success proved that Russia’s tactic in recent months of raining down missiles and drones to knock out Ukraine’s energy infrastructure was increasingly failing as Kyiv beefs up its air defences more than 10 months since Russian forces invaded.

Moreover, Ukraine’s deployment of missiles and other weapons to stop such airborne attacks is much more expensive than Russia’s relatively inexpensive drones.
