Russia: Russia’s defence ministry stated that it has destroyed 20 Ukrainian drones over the Russian-annexed Crimean Peninsula.
No one was injured, as per the report. The attack occurred early morning, on 12th August 2023. The ministry said that fourteen drones were destroyed by air defence systems and six were suppressed by electronic warfare.
Mr. Sergei Kryuchkov, an adviser to the Russia-installed governor of Crimea, commented earlier that air defence systems were engaged in repelling air attacks in different parts of the peninsula.
According to the Crimea transport authorities, traffic on the Crimean Bridge was suspended for about two hours at 01:30 AM local time.
Recent attacks on Crimea are part of Ukraine’s ongoing use of armed drones to target areas within Russia and territories controlled by Russia. However, Ukraine rarely takes public responsibility for these operations.
Russian authorities have announced that Ukrainian drones were intercepted while trying to attack Moscow on 11th August 2023. This marked the third consecutive day of such attempts to target the Russian capital. On the same day, Russian missiles also tragically took the life of an 8-year-old boy in Western Ukraine.
A missile struck a house in Ukraine’s Ivano-Frankivsk region, resulting in the tragic death of a boy. The incident occurred around 100 kilometres from the Polish border, as reported by Ukraine’s prosecutor general’s office.
In another event, a drone aiming to attack Moscow was shot down near the city’s Karamyshevskaya Embankment on 11th August 2023. This location is approximately 5 kilometres away from a Moscow business district that had previously been targeted in drone incidents.
The presence of drones disrupted flight operations at two Russian airports, namely Vnukovo and Kaluga. However, flights have since resumed at both airports. Notably, Vnukovo airport had experienced three consecutive days of flight halts due to drone attacks.
