Russia accuses Ukraine of drone attack on Moscow

The strikes caused no serious damage or casualties, Moscow Mayor Mr. Sergei Sobyanin said.

Russia: Russia has reportedly ‘suppressed’ a Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow. The attack came a day after Ukraine vowed to “retaliate” for a Russian missile attack on the Black Sea port of Odesa.

The strikes caused no serious damage or casualties, Moscow Mayor Mr. Sergei Sobyanin said. According to Russian state media outlets, a drone hit a high-rise business centre on Likhacheva Avenue in Moscow.

“On the morning of July 24, an attempt by the Kyiv regime to launch a terrorist attack using two unmanned aerial vehicles against facilities on the territory of the city of Moscow was thwarted,” Russia’s Ministry of Defence stated.

“Two Ukrainian UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) were suppressed by electronic warfare means and crashed,” the Ministry further added.

Ukraine is remaining silent about the attack. Moscow lies around 500 kilometres (310 miles) away from the Ukrainian border. Moscow has experienced several drone attacks this year, including one that struck the Kremlin in May.

Earlier this month, Russia reported downing five Ukrainian drones, causing disruptions at Moscow’s Vnukovo international airport. Since Moscow withdrew from the deal permitting Ukrainian grain exports through the Black Sea, Russian forces have relentlessly targeted the port city of Odesa in Ukraine.

The latest strike on the port city of Odesa, which occurred on 23rd July 2023, resulted in the loss of two lives and significant damage to a historic cathedral. The attack was likely carried out by Russian forces as part of their ongoing military actions in the region following the breakdown of the agreement allowing Ukrainian grain exports through the Black Sea.
