New York: Reports indicate that in December of last year, approximately 5,000 illegal border crossings occurred daily in the US. This led to federal and state governments incurring costs amounting to $150.7 billion, according to a study by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR).
Since Joe Biden assumed office as President of the US, more than 3.3 million illegal immigrants have entered the country, as stated by the Subcommittee on Judiciary, Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement. The committee noted that this has cost taxpayers billions of pounds.
According to a FAIR study released last March, the country spends $150.7 billion annually on emergency medical aid, housing illegal immigrants in local jails, welfare programmes, and other expenses. In 2017, the cost of illegal immigration to the US was approximately $116 billion.
Meanwhile, the Arizona Supreme Court ruled on Friday that 98,000 Arizona residents without verified citizenship could vote. Voters must prove their citizenship to participate in local and state elections. In Arizona, voters can prove citizenship by providing a driving licence or ID number, or they can register to vote by submitting a copy of their birth certificate, passport, or naturalisation documents.
