Boston, US: Mr. William, Prince of Wales, has announced the winners of the Earthshot Prize 2022 at the awards ceremony in Boston. Prince William established the annual awards to provide funding for environmental preservation initiatives.

The award winning projects are Mukuru Clean Stoves from Kenya, Kheyti from India, Queensland Indigenous Women Rangers Network from Australia, Notpla from UK and 44.01 Project from Oman.

Each winner will receive $1.2 million to develop their innovation.

I believe that the Earthshot solutions you have seen this evening prove we can overcome our planet’s greatest challenges.

    Prince William shared.

The Prince added that, “By supporting and scaling them we can change our future.”

This is the second set of Earthshot Prizes awarded, after the first ever awards last year. The name of the prize refers to the “Moonshot” ambition of 1960s America by then-President Mr. John F. Kennedy, who made a pledge to get a man on the moon within a decade.

Five Earthshot Prizes of $1.2 million will be awarded each year until 2030 in support of environmental innovation projects for the future.

Prince William, Sir David Attenborough, Ms. Cate Blanchett, Mr. Dani Alves, Fijian campaigner Mr. Ernest Gibson, and Ms. Shakira were the jury members who selected the winners from a list of 15 finalists.

Mr. William and Ms. Catherine presented the awards to the five winners during a star-studded ceremony in Boston, in the presence of Ms. Billie Eilish, Ms. Annie Lennox, Ms. Ellie Goulding, Ms. Chloe x Halle, and Mr. David Beckham.

Nominations for the 2023 prize begin on 5th December.
