Northern California: The Park Fire in Northern California has scorched over 350,000 acres (141,640 hectares) approximately 90 miles north of Sacramento, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire). Thousands of firefighters are battling a rapidly expanding wildfire, which has more than doubled in size within 24 hours.
Cooler temperatures and increased humidity are forecasted for the region, potentially aiding the efforts to slow the fire’s progression. Despite these favourable weather conditions, the fire was only 10 percent contained till now. The Park Fire has already destroyed 134 structures, prompting widespread evacuation orders and warnings across multiple communities in several areas.
Among the affected areas is the town of Paradise, which was devastated by the 2018 Camp Fire, the deadliest wildfire in California’s history. Evacuation orders and warnings aim to safeguard lives and properties as the fire continues to spread.
President Joe Biden has been briefed on the situation and has directed his team to provide all necessary support to combat the fire. Federal assistance is being coordinated to enhance local efforts in containing the blaze and assisting affected communities.
Authorities have arrested a man suspected of starting the Park Fire by pushing a flaming car into a gully. The incident is under investigation as crews work tirelessly to control the fire.
The Park Fire is the largest of dozens of active wildfires currently burning across the United States. According to the National Interagency Fire Centre, these fires have collectively consumed more than 2 million acres nationwide. In Oregon, several significant fires are also raging, including the Durkee Fire, which has burned over 288,000 acres in the eastern part of the state.
A firefighter lost his life in Oregon after a single-engine tanker crashed near the Falls Fire in the southeastern region of the state. As the firefighting teams continue their strengthened efforts, the Park Fire remains a significant threat to northern California.
