New Delhi: ChatGPT maker OpenAI on August 19, has announced the launch of ChatGPT Go, an India-exclusive subscription plan priced at 399 rupees ($4.57) per month, making it the company’s most affordable offering to date.
The move is part of OpenAI’s strategy to expand its presence in India, which CEO Sam Altman recently identified as the company’s second-largest market by user base after the US, and one that may soon become its biggest.
The new ChatGPT Go plan is aimed at India’s price-sensitive digital audience, with the country home to nearly one billion internet users, the largest in the world. Global tech companies often roll out lower-priced subscription models in India to attract and retain this massive consumer base.
We just launched ChatGPT Go in India, a new subscription tier that gives users in India more access to our most popular features: 10x higher message limits, 10x more image generations, 10x more file uploads, and 2x longer memory compared with our free tier. All for Rs. 399. 🇮🇳

The launch also follows Sam Altman’s meeting with India’s IT minister earlier this year, where they discussed building a low-cost AI ecosystem in the country, aligning with OpenAI’s mission to make advanced AI tools more accessible.
By introducing ChatGPT Go, the Microsoft-backed (MSFT.O) startup is reinforcing its commitment to offering affordable AI access in one of the world’s most crucial growth markets.
