New Delhi: ChatGPT maker OpenAI on August 19, has announced the launch of ChatGPT Go, an India-exclusive subscription plan priced at 399 rupees ($4.57) per month, making it the company’s most affordable offering to date.

The move is part of OpenAI’s strategy to expand its presence in India, which CEO Sam Altman recently identified as the company’s second-largest market by user base after the US, and one that may soon become its biggest.

The new ChatGPT Go plan is aimed at India’s price-sensitive digital audience, with the country home to nearly one billion internet users, the largest in the world. Global tech companies often roll out lower-priced subscription models in India to attract and retain this massive consumer base.

We just launched ChatGPT Go in India, a new subscription tier that gives users in India more access to our most popular features: 10x higher message limits, 10x more image generations, 10x more file uploads, and 2x longer memory compared with our free tier. All for Rs. 399. 🇮🇳

    What’s Included

Along with everything offered in the Free plan, subscribers also get:

    • Greater access to GPT-5: Use more of OpenAI’s most advanced model.
    • Expanded image generation: Create a larger number of visuals for both personal and professional use.
    • More file uploads: Work with and analyze additional documents, spreadsheets, and other files.
    • Enhanced data analysis tools: Run Python and other advanced analytics more frequently for problem-solving and exploration.
    • Longer memory: Benefit from extended conversation history for more personalized and continuous interactions.
    • Access to projects, tasks, and custom GPTs: Organize workflows, monitor progress, and build tailored AI tools with greater flexibility.

According to OpenAI, subscribers to ChatGPT Go can send up to ten times more messages and generate ten times more images than those using the free version, in addition to benefiting from faster response times. Usage allowances scale higher with premium-tier subscriptions.

OpenAI’s subscription structure in India now includes three tiers: ChatGPT Go at ₹399/month, ChatGPT Plus at ₹1,999/month, and the top-tier ChatGPT Pro at ₹19,900/month.

The launch also follows Sam Altman’s meeting with India’s IT minister earlier this year, where they discussed building a low-cost AI ecosystem in the country, aligning with OpenAI’s mission to make advanced AI tools more accessible.

By introducing ChatGPT Go, the Microsoft-backed (MSFT.O) startup is reinforcing its commitment to offering affordable AI access in one of the world’s most crucial growth markets.
