Sydney: Australian soap Neighbours has been cancelled once again, two years after being revived by Amazon MGM Studios.
Without citing a specific reason, Amazon confirmed that the long-running series will end at the close of 2025, marking 40 years and more than 9,000 episodes since its debut.
Amazon spokesperson said that, “Forty years is an incredible milestone and we are proud that Amazon MGM Studios was able to have a small part of bringing further episodes to Freevee and Prime Video customers over the last two years, spanning over 400 episodes.”
Originally axed by Channel 5 in 2022, the show was brought back just four months after a star-studded farewell episode, which attracted millions of viewers.
The soap has been a massive hit in Australia and the UK, helping to launch the careers of Kylie Minogue, Guy Pearce, and Margot Robbie, and earning its first Emmy nomination in 2023.
A statement posted on the show’s official social media accounts announced that Neighbours would be “resting” from December 2025.

Herbison hinted at a possible future revival, stating that audiences have embraced Neighbours for four decades and expressing pride in its recent achievements. Herbison emphasized the show’s strong fanbase and suggested that there are still more stories to tell about the residents of Ramsay Street in the future.
Despite its cancellation, new episodes will continue airing four times a week on Amazon Prime Video and Australia’s Channel Ten until the series concludes in late 2025.
