Los Angeles, USA: Globally renowned film and television awards, The Golden Globes are set to return to live television as NBC, the television broadcasting company preparing to have the ceremony in 2023 with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Dick Clark Prods and Network.
The event will return to the Beverly Hilton for its 80th Anniversary.
Earlier this week, American English-language commercial broadcast television and radio network, NBC shared that it will resume live broadcasts of the Golden Globe Awards for film and television in January 2023, citing organizers’ move to address ethics and a lack of diversity among voters.
The Comcast-owned network told it had committed to airing the show for one year as part of an agreement with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the group that hands out the awards. The show on January 10 will also be streamed on Comcast’s streaming service Peacock.
NBC canceled the broadcast of the annual ceremony in January 2022 with major Hollywood studios and actors boycotted the event following a backlash from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) about ethical lapses among organizers.
A Los Angeles Times investigation published in February 2021 found that none of the HFPA’s 89 members are black, raising long-standing questions about the conduct of journalists who allegedly solicited favors from celebrities and movie studios.
The organization accepted 103 new electors from 62 countries outside the United States, bringing the total number of electors to 200.
According to NBC, the total voting body for the Golden Globe Awards is now 52 percent female, 51.5 percent racially and ethnically diverse, 19.5 percent Latino, 12 percent Asian, 10 percent black, and 10 percent Middle Eastern.
Nominations for the 2023 awards will be announced on December 12. After 2023, Globes organizers could pursue other distribution opportunities, NBC said.
