Jerusalem: Narendra Modi has travelled to Israel for a two-day visit that both governments have described as an opportunity to deepen cooperation across defence, technology and strategic sectors. The Narendra Modi visit has come at a time of heightened regional concern as tensions between the United States and Iran continue to escalate.
Modi, who became the first Indian prime minister to visit Israel in 2017, is expected to hold talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on areas including artificial intelligence, defence cooperation and trade. Israeli officials have indicated that the visit could pave the way for expanded partnerships and closer strategic coordination between the two countries.
The trip has included plans for Modi to address Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, and to lay a wreath at Yad Vashem, the country’s Holocaust memorial. Diplomatic sources have suggested that bilateral ties are approaching a significant upgrade as both nations look to strengthen cooperation in emerging technologies and military exports.

The visit has coincided with rising tensions linked to the United States and Iran. The United States has deployed naval forces near Iran and positioned an aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean, raising concerns about a potential military confrontation. Analysts have noted that any escalation could affect Israel and United States military assets across the region.
Strategic experts have observed that India has an interest in maintaining regional stability due to the presence of millions of Indian citizens working in Gulf countries who send substantial remittances home. Narendra Modi has been expected to discuss regional developments with Israeli leadership during the visit.
Israel’s leadership has highlighted shared interests between the two countries in areas of security and geopolitical alignment. At the same time, observers have noted that India has historically avoided formal military alliances, suggesting that while defence cooperation may deepen, New Delhi is likely to maintain its independent foreign policy approach.
