United States: The US has claimed that three commercial ships were attacked by missiles in the Red Sea, and one of the US destroyers shot down armed drones while en route to assist.
The US military’s Central Command said that the British-owned Bahamas-flagged Unity Explorer was one of the ships that was attacked on Sunday by drones and missiles, and it only sustained minor damage.
The Houthi rebels, who have taken responsibility for the attacks and threatened to halt Israeli-linked ships from passing while the Gaza conflict is still raging, carried out the attacks close to Yemen.
Israel claimed that the ships had no connection to its territory. According to US Central Command, all of the attacked ships were in international waters, and three drones were shot down by USS Carney as it responded to distress calls.
It described the attacks as a “direct threat to international commerce and maritime security” and stated that it thought Iran had “fully enabled” them.” It might represent a significant uptick in a string of naval assaults connected to the conflict between Israel and Hamas, as per the statement.
At approximately nine in the morning local time, the Carney discovered that a missile had been fired from Yemen in the direction of the cargo ship M/V Unity Explorer.
The US claimed that the missile landed “in the vicinity of the vessel” and that the ship is “UK-owned and operated” with crew members from two unidentified nations.
The American ship shot down a drone that was launched from Houthi areas of Yemen at around 12 PM. Although the US noted that it was moving toward the Carney, it was not clear what its ultimate goal was.
