United States: Ms. Ilyasah Shabazz, the daughter of murdered black civil rights activist Malcolm X, has stated that she is suing the New York City Police Department and other agencies for her father’s 1965 murder.
Ms. Shabazz claimed that US officials fraudulently concealed evidence that they “conspired to and carried out their plan to assassinate” her father, and that the planned legal action was announced at the site where he was fatally shot exactly 58 years ago in New York.”
“For years, our family has fought for the truth to come to light concerning his murder,” Ms. Shabazz shared at a news conference at the site of her father’s assassination, which is now a memorial to Malcolm X.
Mr. Benjamin Crump, the lawyer who is representing the family, alleged that powerful figures in the American government had conspired to kill Mr. Malcom X and mentioned former FBI Director J Edgar Hoover throughout his remarks.
Mr. Crump remarked that Malcolm X’s family intends to file a wrongful death lawsuit seeking damages in the range of $100 million (£83 million).
“It’s not just about the triggermen. It’s about those who conspired with the triggermen to do this dastardly deed,” the lawyer stated.
Ms. Shabazz was two years old when she saw her father gunned down. Three armed men shot the 39-year-old Malcolm X 21 times as he was preparing to speak at a Harlem auditorium.
