United States: Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of US President-elect Donald Trump, has withdrawn her name from consideration for US Senate. Lara Trump has announced she will not desire to replace outgoing Florida Senator Marco Rubio, designated for secretary of state.
In a post on X, Trump said she made the decision “after an incredible amount of thought, contemplation, and encouragement from so many.” She expressed her approval for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who will appoint a successor to Rubio’s seat, which is set to expire in 2026.
Trump stated that, “I could not have been more honoured to serve as RNC co-chair during the most high-stakes election of our lifetime,” adding that she is “truly humbled by the unbelievable support” she has acquired from Florida and across the country.
Trump stepped down earlier this month as co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), fuelling initial assumption that she might vie for the Senate role. Instead, she knocked on a major announcement slated for January but declined to provide further details.
Elected RNC co-chair in March, Lara Trump has been a key figure in consolidating Donald Trump’s power over the Republican Party. Alongside her husband Eric Trump and brother-in-law Donald Trump Jr., she played a major role as a campaign surrogate during the 2024 presidential election.
