Abu Dhabi: Lando Norris has claimed the Formula One world title after finishing third at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, a result that proved just enough to seal the championship at the Yas Marina Circuit. The outcome followed a fiercely contested season spanning 24 races, with the title decided by a narrow two-point margin.
Despite finishing behind Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who won the race, and McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri, Norris closed out the championship with a composed and resilient drive under intense pressure. The British driver entered the final race knowing a podium finish would secure the title, and delivered a performance that balanced caution with decisive action.
The championship triumph marks Norris’s first world title in a seven-season Formula One career and ends McLaren’s drivers’ championship drought stretching back to 2008. It also represents a milestone for the team’s long-term revival following years of struggles in the constructors’ standings during the mid-2010s.
McLaren’s title success followed a challenging run-in to the season finale, including setbacks in Las Vegas and Qatar. A crucial fourth-place finish in Qatar, where Norris gained decisive points in the closing laps, proved pivotal in swinging the championship momentum.

At Yas Marina, Norris navigated traffic and executed a series of bold overtakes to maintain position following pit stops. A tense moment arose after an aggressive pass involving Yuki Tsunoda, which was investigated by stewards before resulting in a penalty for the defending driver, allowing Norris to retain the vital place.
Oscar Piastri finished second in Abu Dhabi but fell short in the championship battle after leading the standings through much of the season. The Australian driver still ended the year with seven race victories, underlining strong championship potential in a third Formula One season.
Max Verstappen completed a remarkable recovery from a significant points deficit to force the championship decision to the final race. Despite victory in Abu Dhabi, the Red Bull driver fell just short of overturning Norris’s lead.
The title win also highlights McLaren’s competitive resurgence under chief executive Zak Brown and team principal Andrea Stella, with operational consistency playing a key role across the season.
