London: King Charles III was briefly hospitalised after experiencing temporary side effects from his ongoing cancer treatment, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.
The 76-year-old monarch was discharged the same day and returned to Clarence House, where he continued working on state affairs. However, on medical advice, he has cancelled his planned engagements in Birmingham.
The King had been scheduled for a busy day in the city, attending four events. A palace spokesperson expressed his disappointment over the cancellation, stating that he hopes to reschedule the visit soon and has extended his apologies to those involved in the planning.
While the palace has not disclosed details about the specific side effects, a royal source described the incident as a “minor bump in the road” and highlighted that his treatment is progressing well.

Queen Camilla did not accompany the King to the hospital, instead attending a reception in north London. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer conveyed his well wishes to the monarch.
Despite his ongoing treatment, King Charles has maintained a busy schedule in recent weeks, including diplomatic engagements and public appearances. He has participated in events such as the Commonwealth Day service and meetings with world leaders.
The Palace has reassured the public that the King’s diary is expected to return to normal next week. His upcoming state visit to Italy in April is still set to proceed, albeit with some modifications.
