London: King Charles will urge unity and collaboration during “these uncertain times” in his annual Commonwealth Day message, emphasizing the importance of nations coming together in a spirit of support and friendship.

This year’s theme, “Together We Thrive,” honours the enduring bond of the Commonwealth family, bringing together 56 independent nations united by the shared values outlined in the Commonwealth Charter.

Emphasizing the principles of family, unity, and peace, the theme underscores the significance of building strong, connected communities that uplift and empower individuals, driving meaningful progress.

King’s message comes as he plays a diplomatic role in ongoing discussions involving the UK, the US, and Ukraine. The King recently hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at Sandringham following Zelensky’s tense meeting with former US President Donald Trump. A state visit for Trump is also in the works.

Canada, a key Commonwealth nation, is facing its own challenges with the US, as Trump has suggested it should become the 51st state. Ahead of a recent meeting with the King, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau asserted Canada’s sovereignty, saying, “Nothing seems more important to Canadians right now than standing up for our sovereignty and our independence as a nation.”

King Charles will use the Commonwealth—an alliance of 56 nations—as an example of international cooperation, stating, “The Commonwealth’s ability to bring together people from all over the world has stood the test of time and remains as ever-important today.”

Monday’s Commonwealth Day celebrations at Westminster Abbey will include King Charles, Queen Camilla, and the Prince and Princess of Wales.

The event will highlight the cultural diversity of the Commonwealth, featuring a Hindu eco-temple pipe band, an African arts group, the Masai Cultural Arts team, and a performance by singer Joan Armatrading.

In a personal touch, the King has curated a playlist for the occasion, featuring music from Bob Marley, Kylie Minogue, and Raye.
