Atlanta: In an interview with CNN, Vice President Kamala Harris shared her plans for her first day in office if elected as the next President of the United States. Harris emphasized her commitment to building an “opportunity economy” that prioritizes the middle class and addresses the needs of American families.
When asked about her initial actions, Harris stated that she would begin implementing her economic vision immediately. “Supporting and strengthening the middle class will be one of my highest priorities from day one,” she affirmed.
Historically, newly inaugurated presidents have signed executive orders to swiftly change federal policies. For instance, on his first day, President Biden signed 17 executive orders, including one to halt the construction of the US-Mexico border wall initiated by former President Donald Trump.
Harris expressed her belief that Americans are eager for a new direction, one that rekindles hope and optimism. “People are ready for a new way forward,” she said, adding that for generations, Americans have been driven by their aspirations and ambitions. However, she lamented that the past decade has seen a promotion of policies that have eroded the essence of American unity and further divided the nation. “It’s time to move past that,” she stated.
To address these challenges, Harris has proposed several measures aimed at easing the financial burden on families. Among her plans is a proposal to increase the child tax credit to $6,000 for families during the first year of a child’s life, which would help cover essential expenses like a crib, car seat, and baby clothes. Additionally, she intends to tackle the issue of affordable housing, which she described as a major concern facing the nation.
“Day one entails a lot of things,” Harris concluded, indicating her readiness to take immediate action to support American families and businesses.
