Farmington Hills, Michigan: Kamala Harris joined Oprah Winfrey for a star-studded campaign rally in Michigan, aimed at energizing voters ahead of the U.S. presidential election. The livestreamed “Unite for America”, featured virtual appearances by celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Chris Rock, and Meryl Streep, who voiced their support for Harris.
Harris opened her conversation with Winfrey by framing her campaign as a broader movement focused on bringing people together. She emphasized the importance of unity and collective responsibility, suggesting that her candidacy was about fostering a sense of purpose among Americans during a critical time.
Winfrey inquired about the noticeable surge in confidence Harris seemed to exhibit after stepping in for President Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee.
Harris replied that, “You know we each have those moments in our lives when it’s time to step up.”

Harris elaborated on her policy commitments, addressing critical issues like the economy, reproductive rights, and immigration. She emphasized her proposal to create an “opportunity economy”.
Harris added that, “Part of my plan is to give start-up small businesses a $50,000 tax deduction to start up their small business. Right now, it’s $5,000. Nobody can start a small business with $5,000.”
During her conversation with Winfrey, Harris touched on key campaign topics including abortion, immigration, and gun rights. She expressed a renewed sense of responsibility after becoming the Democratic nominee and emphasized her commitment to leading the country.
Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, are conducting fewer interviews and press conferences than any other campaign in modern U.S. history. They have only participated in seven interviews and press events, compared to over 70 by Donald Trump and his running mate, JD Vance.
Despite the limited media exposure, opinion polls show that Harris is in a close race with Trump for the November election, highlighting the competitiveness of the 2024 presidential race.
The event was designed to mobilize voters as early in-person voting began in several states, with celebrities calling for optimism and participation in the democratic process. Harris also received a significant boost in the polls, particularly in crucial swing states like Pennsylvania, as the tight race with Donald Trump continues.
