United States: Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has spent her last campaign day encouraging Pennsylvania voters to make their voices heard in the critical swing state, whose 19 Electoral College votes could determine the election’s outcome. Handling a lively crowd in Allentown, Harris emphasised the importance of voter turnout in this historic moment.

Harris announced that, “We need everyone in Pennsylvania to vote,” rallying allies with the assertion that their participation would be decisive. Polls demonstrate a tight race in the state between Harris and Republican rival Donald Trump, who held a simultaneous rally just miles away.

Over recent days, Harris has purposely steered her campaign away from direct attacks on Trump, instead focusing on messages of optimism and unity. Harris attributed the campaign’s power to its alignment with “the ambitions, aspirations, and dreams of the American people.”

Harris’s campaign is levelled in historic significance: she would be the first woman, the first Black woman, and the first person of South Asian descent to become president, having already broken barriers as vice president under Joe Biden. With her age, 60, and experience, she called herself ready to offer “a new generation of leadership.”

The rally featured Grammy-winning musician Fat Joe, who directly addressed recent racially charged remarks made by Trump-affiliated comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, calling on the local Puerto Rican community to respond at the polls. Harris, echoing this sentiment, told the crowd that, “I stand here proud of my longstanding commitment to Puerto Rico and her people.”

In Scranton, Biden’s birthplace, Harris repeated her promise to protect reproductive rights, highlighting her that, “We Are Not Going Back” slogan as a response to conservative support for the Supreme Court’s overturning of abortion rights.

The campaign’s final Pennsylvania stop in Philadelphia will include high-profile appearances by Lady Gaga and Oprah Winfrey, underscoring the high stakes as Harris pushes for every vote.
