London, UK: A White House spokesperson has confirmed that Mr. Joe Biden has agreed to undertake a state visit to meet King Charles III, following an invitation.
During a cordial 25 to 30 minute phone conversation, Mr. Biden extended his congratulations to King Charles III on his impending coronation and received an invitation for a state visit. However, the US president will not be present at the coronation ceremony.
Consistent with historical practice, Mr. Biden will not be attending the coronation of King Charles III, as it is customary for US presidents to abstain from such events. This aligns with the decision made by President Mr. Eisenhower in 1953 to not attend the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
On behalf of her husband, Ms. Jill Biden, the first lady of the United States, will serve as the representative for the country during the coronation of King Charles III. In addition to the upcoming visit to Ireland and Northern Ireland, it has been reported that Mr. Biden has accepted an invitation for a state visit to meet King Charles III. The president’s tour will commence in Belfast before proceeding to Dublin, with scheduled visits to County Louth and County Mayo the ancestral homeland of Mr. Biden’s family. Furthermore, the President is set to deliver a speech to the Irish parliament, the Oireachtas.
Ms. Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House press secretary, stated that Mr. Biden expressed his fondness for his previous visit to Windsor Castle in 2021 when he and the first lady met with Queen Elizabeth II. During his recent phone conversation with King Charles III, the US president conveyed his desire to visit again in the near future.
