Washington, US: The eminent American music star Ms. Dolly Parton has been awarded a $100 million prize by Mr. Jeff Bezos, the Amazon founder. The widely celebrated singer accepted The Bezos Award for Courage and Civility recently.
Mr. Jeff Bezos presented the award to Ms. Parton in the presence of his partner, Ms. Lauren Sanchez. Ms. Sanchez referred to the renowned music star as “a woman who gives with her heart and leads with love and compassion in every aspect of her work”.
“We can’t wait to see all the good that you’re going to do with this $100 million award,” Ms. Sanchez shared.
The Amazon owner appreciated Ms. Parton’s donations including contributing to various books for children and world literacy in the video he posted on social media announcing the award to the celebrated star.
“[Dolly Parton] gives with her heart. What she’s done for kids, and literacy, and so many other things, is just incredible,” Amazon CEO added while praising Mr. Parton’s contributions to mankind.
Apart from giving books to children, the legendary singer has also supported Moderna’s vaccination by donating $1 million to Vanderbilt University Medical Centre for coronavirus research.
“When people are in a position to help, you should help. And I know I’ve always said, I try to put my money where my heart is,” Ms. Parton declared while accepting the award.
Mr. Bezos has also awarded $200 million to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum and $10 billion for climate change, for which the Amazon owner is a significant advocate through his charity Earth Fund.
