Hama Province, Syria: As per Syria’s state news agency, SANA, the Israeli Attack Killed at Least 14 people and injured 43 others. The attack reportedly targeted military sites near the city of Masyaf, causing extreme material damage and igniting fires. SANA reports clarified that the Israeli missiles were launched from the direction of northwestern Lebanon, with Syrian air defence systems intercepting some of the missiles.

The updated toll of casualties represents a sharp rise from earlier reports of five dead and 19 wounded. Many of the injured are in critical condition, according to a local health official. The director of Masyaf’s public hospital indicated that civilians were among the casualties.

The airstrikes targeted a military research center, which two regional intelligence sources identified as a hub for chemical weapons production. Reuters reported that Iranian military experts were believed to be working at the facility. Israel has not officially commented on the strikes, as is typical with its operations in Syria.

This attack comes against a backdrop of increasing tensions in the region. Iran has maintained a military presence in Syria and had earlier vowed “harsh punishment” for Israel following the assassination of senior Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran in July. Although no retaliation from Iran has yet occurred, officials have hinted at a forthcoming response.

In recent months, Israel has been the target of multiple cross-border attacks, including an April assault involving hundreds of drones and missiles, purportedly launched by Iran in response to Israeli airstrikes on Iranian diplomatic facilities in Damascus. Last week, Hezbollah also claimed responsibility for an attack on an Israeli military intelligence site near Tel Aviv, following the killing of a top Hezbollah commander in Beirut.

Hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel have escalated, with near-daily exchanges of fire across the Lebanon-Israel border. Hezbollah has vowed to continue its attacks on Israeli military sites in support of Palestinians in Gaza, where ongoing Israeli offensives have resulted in over 40,900 casualties. Israeli officials, in turn, have threatened to launch an all-out war if necessary to secure their borders.

The situation remains volatile, with the potential for further escalation in the coming days.
