New Delhi: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has joined Truth Social, the social media platform launched by U.S. President Donald Trump, making him one of the few global leaders to do so.
In his first post, Modi shared a photograph with Trump from his 2019 visit to Houston, Texas, and expressed his delight at joining the platform. Truth Social, which was launched in February 2022 following Trump’s ban from major social networks like Twitter and Facebook, allows users to post ‘truths’ and ‘retruths,’ similar to tweets and retweets on X, formerly Twitter.
As of 03:30 GMT, Modi had amassed 21,500 followers and was following Trump and U.S. Vice President JD Vance. Shortly after Modi’s arrival on the platform, Trump shared a link to the Indian leader’s recent interview. During the discussion, Modi spoke about his life journey, the 2002 Gujarat riots, and India’s relationship with China.

Despite its presence, Truth Social remains significantly smaller than its competitors. According to Bloomberg data, its total user base is 400 times smaller than X. Trump, who has 9.28 million followers on Truth Social, still lags behind the 87 million he has on X.
Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), which owns the platform, went public in March 2024, with Trump holding a 57 percent stake. The company has reported losses of $400 million in 2024, with revenue of $3.6 million, and a market valuation of $4.45 billion.
Meanwhile, ARC Global Investments, a Kuwait-based firm, and some former contestants from The Apprentice hold substantial stakes in the company, though some of these holdings are currently entangled in legal disputes. With Modi’s presence on the platform, observers are keen to see how his engagement shapes the platform’s reach and influence.
