New Delhi (Capital of India): The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reiterated India’s stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, emphasizing support for any “feasible and mutually acceptable solution” that could restore peace.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, during a media briefing, stated, “As friends and partners, we will support any feasible and mutually acceptable solution or format that could restore peace.”
Prime Minister Modi’s Visit to Kyiv
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Kyiv was highlighted as a significant step toward strengthening bilateral ties with Ukraine. Jaiswal noted that the visit is expected to pave the way for more forward-looking discussions on a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.
Indians in Russia
Regarding Indian nationals stuck in the Russian army, Jaiswal confirmed that 15 individuals have been released and returned to India. The embassy remains in contact with Russian authorities to secure the release of others who wish to return.
Ukraine’s Perspective
Jaiswal acknowledged Ukraine’s perspective on various issues, as shared by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He emphasized that India’s approach will be guided by the bilateral discussions, particularly the recent high-level visit, which is seen as a catalyst for stronger ties and further discussions on peace.
India’s Constructive Role
India has consistently advocated for “constructive, solution-oriented, and practical engagement” with all stakeholders to achieve a negotiated settlement. Jaiswal noted that while India is willing to play a constructive role in the peace process, it is too early to discuss specific modalities.
Prerogative of the Conflict Parties
The decision on when and how to commence peace talks rests with the conflicting parties. India, as a friend and partner, will continue to support any viable solution that leads to peace.
Indians Stranded in Sao Paulo
Addressing reports about Indians stranded at Sao Paulo airport in Brazil, Jaiswal confirmed that the consulate in Sao Paulo is in touch with local authorities, and the stranded individuals are receiving necessary care, including food.
India-Germany Ties and India-Africa Summit
On other matters, Jaiswal mentioned that the mobility partnership signed with Germany will enhance people-to-people ties. Additionally, discussions are ongoing with the African Union to schedule the India-Africa Summit.
