Warsaw (Capital of Poland): Poland’s Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, has expressed confidence in India’s potential to play a crucial role in resolving the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. His comments came just ahead of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ukraine, scheduled for tomorrow.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Kyiv, coinciding with Ukraine’s National Flag Day on 23 August, marks a significant moment as it will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine. The visit is set against the backdrop of the prolonged Russia-Ukraine conflict, which continues to have far-reaching implications for global geopolitics and poses challenges to India’s defense strategy.

During discussions with Tusk, Modi reiterated India’s commitment to a peaceful resolution of the conflict, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and diplomacy. “No issue can be resolved on the battlefield. India is prepared to offer all necessary support to restore peace and stability in the region,” Modi stated.

Modi’s visit to Ukraine is not solely focused on geopolitical matters. India is also looking to strengthen its defense ties with Ukraine, particularly in the area of defense manufacturing. As Modi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy meet, there is potential for deeper industrial and defense cooperation, including discussions on upgrading India’s warships.

This visit also highlights the strengthening of India-Poland relations, as Modi’s stop in Warsaw marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations. Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Poland in 45 years, and from there, he will proceed to Kyiv by train.

This visit underscores India’s growing diplomatic and strategic role on the global stage, particularly in conflict resolution and defense cooperation.
